Do you sneeze when you look into the sun?

If you do, you are among 18-35% of the population that has sneezing triggered by the photic light reflex.

It is also known as the Autosomal dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst (ACHOO) syndrome (funny!)

sneeze

Aristotle first wondered why this phenomenon occurred.  Scientists and philosophers like Francis Bacon tried to determine if it was the light or heat from the sun causing the sneeze.  Experiments have now shown that it is the light, rather than the heat from the sun causing the sneeze response and it is probably caused by our optic nerve fibres in the brain being a little crossed.
