Echolocation

After reading a book about bats at school, we started learning about how they find their way around (and how they find their dinner!)

Bats use a system called echolocation.  The animal emits or sends out a series of sounds that hit and reflect off objects or other animals and then reflect back to the animal.

Here is a video that introduces echolocation

Here is a clip from BBC Earth about bats

Aren’t animals clever? So bats, dolphins and some birds use echolocation.

Humans use echolocation too in submarines called sonar.
